What happened?

At the beginning of February 2009 it became known that the building of Human Right House of Voronezsh is to be sold. Human Rights House is a community of civil and Human Rights organizations, a space for activities of various youth and civic initiatives (anti-fascist, awareness-raising, charity and community work, environmental, etc.).

In the same building there is the Public Reception under the jurisdiction of the federal Ombudsman and office of the International Secretariat of International Network -Youth Human Rights Movement (YHRM).

The premises available at the moment are drastically insufficient or the adequate work of the Public Reception and normal placement of all employees and volunteers of Human Rights House organizations.

The building which hosts Human Rights House is a historic landmark, but due to lack of attention on the side of the authorities it has been in an accident condition for some years.

What is more, the House was included into the list (in russian) of municipal property open for privatization, which means that it is up to be sold into private hand in the near future.

To change the current situation we need your help and support!

We want for:

• the building of HRH to be excluded from the privatization plan
  OR
  Human Rights House and its associated organizations be given other at least equivalent premises in the centre of the city.
• assistance in expanding the office space, sufficient for the efficient work of human rights organizations of the House, first of all, for Public Reception.
• due recognition on the part of the authorities given to the activities of Human Rights House and its associated organizations.
