Dear friends and colleages!
The organizations of the Human Rights House (the YHRM and a dozen other organizations and initiatives) are threatened by eviction, since the house is a part of the privatization plan of the municipal authorities. It is obvious, that even if everyone were to throw in what they’ve got, we can not compete with the commercial structures and could never buy this property ourselves.

Some of you may already have read on our site or elsewhere, that a while ago we’ve founded Human Rights House-Voronezh. It is a community of human rights’ and civil society organizations, of which Youth Human Rights Movement was one of the founders.

We barely had the time to found it – and now we are being evicted and we need your help!

The International Secretariat of YHRM (also known as the Admin-center) has been for the last few years situated on the third floor of an old worn-out building in the center of Voronezh on Tsyurupy street, 34 and during those years several hundred of YHRM correspondents and participants have visited us here.

We frequently held there seminars and work group meetings, despite the fact that the space is scarce, and more and more people are filling it with more and more of their books and papers J.

The house is in a terrible state, the roof is leaking, but still it is better to have such a roof over your head than no roof at all!

Thanks to the public support and actions of the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation and of the Moscow Helsinki Group, the sale of the property has been postponed and didn’t take place on May 12 this year as was originally planned. But the house is still a part of the privatization plan, and might be sold in the coming months. It is obvious that our situation will remain uncertain and dependent on the authorities, until we find a way to at least partly become the owners of our House.

We are turning to you for help, in order to:
    * Stop the sale of the building
    * Enlarge the facilities we have today.
    * And finally: draw attention to the interregional and international work of the YHRM and it’s importance and significance.

Letters of support from different towns and countries addressed to the local authorities are very important at this stage! You will find an example letter attached, so we’ve made it easy for you ;-). All the addresses are at the top of the letter, so you can just print it, sign it and send it our in your name or in the name of your organisation. And you are more than welcome to change the text!

We will be very thankful for any support to the House of Human Rights in Voronezh – the headquarter of YHRM International Secretariat (and home to many other organizations).

More information about the situation and what you can do is on the website of HRH: http://save.hrdom.hrworld.ru/en

Hoping for your support!
